People have all sorts of opinions about South Central. South Central is usually portrayed by the media as bad and dirty and although some of that may be true it is also a very nice place. It is a rich community of people of many different races and culture. As I stated before there are also many bad things about South Central. It is full of gangs and violence and drugs. Knowing this I’d say I would not like to live in South Central. But, I do love going to school here because of the friends I’ve made. Either way south central is a part of me and who I am.

The three most important events that have had the greatest impact on South Central, LA what it is today are gang history, the crack epidemic, and immigration.

The first event is gang history. Gangs are a big part of south central. They are very important. Gangs make up a big part of South Central and play a big role on why it is the way it is today. Gangs started out because they wanted protection from the original white gangs such as the Spook Hunters. That led to gangs forming like the Black Panthers an the Brown Berets. After those were destroyed by the government the bloods and crips were formed which play a huge part today because they are both some of the largest gangs in LA. I chose this because it directly affects my community.

The second event that has changed South Central is the crack epidemic. This is important because it had a lot of repercussions. Because of the crack epidemic many people live were drastically affected. It was the cause of many peoples deaths which is an impact today. Because of this event their is still large quantities of crack today in LA which affects people in the community and possibly are school. I chose this because a lot of people along with LA were affected by it.

The third event I chose was immigration. I chose this because I believe this is one of the positive things about South Central. If it wasn’t for immigration their wouldn’t be much diversity in south central. Immigration affected south central because many different people came to live here. I chose this event because this directly affects many, many people in the community because if it weren’t for this some of them wouldn’t be here. immigration is a really important event because I believe it’s one of the positive outcomes of South Central.

The three major events that affected South Central were gangs, the crack epidemic, and immigration. These events are important because they are what make South Central, South Central. In the near future I think South Central will stay the same because I think it will take a long time to make a place like this change.
